Set
in the beautiful scenery of the Lake District, Keswick is one
of the area's busiest and most vibrant towns. Whether you want
to explore the lakes and fells, discover the history of the region,
or just sit back and enjoy the wealth of art and culture that
the Lake Distict has to offer, Keswick has something for everyone.
Surely
the aspect of Keswick that arrests the attention of most visitors
is its surroundings. The town is set on the shores of Lake Derwentwater,
overlooked by fells on all sides. The most relaxing way to appreciate
the stunning views is to have a trip on the Keswick Launch, which
takes you on a 50 minute tour of this beautiful lake. For the
more adventurous, the valley of Borrowdale is just a stone's throw
away, and is a heaven for climbers and walkers.
When
the weather is bad and you're forced inside, Keswick comes into
its own. Boasting a brand-new Theatre By The Lake, offering an
eclectic mix of drama, music, dance and film, the world-famous
pencil museum, Keswick's own museum and art gallery and the tranquil
Trotters World of Animals. Keswick provides history and culture
for the whole family. Pubs, restaurants, Saturday market, swimming
pool & leisure centre, cinema and two nightclubs are also on
offer.
For
visitors to the Lake District, it is the stunning scenery of mountains
and lakes that is the centre of attention. Whether you want to
stroll around the lakes and valleys or you're the more adventurous
hiker type, Keswick is only a short drive away from Lakeland's
most beautiful spots.

Drive
along the lakeside from Keswick and you soon get to Borrowdale,
one of the most popular haunts of walkers and climbers. From here
you can visit the spectacular Taylorgill Force Waterfall, walk
up to Styhead Tarn, climb England's highest mountain Scarfell
Pike, or just enjoy the scenery from the valley floor.
For
a more secluded and tranquil walk, why not try the silent and
mysterious hills and vales around Bassenthwaite Lake, again only
a short drive away? Otherwise, Keswick's position almost in the
centre of the Lake District means that Grasmere, Ullswater, Buttermere
and Windermere are all easily accessible. What's more, Keswick
has its very own Skiddaw for those climbers who don't want to
travel but still want a magnificient panoramic view of the district.
